Landscape
Completed
When we arrived to the land we didn’t want to take any drastic changes. But first observe and understand the place. Talk with neighbours, clean up overgrown ruins, see waterlines and the change in climate throughout the year. After doing this for almost 2 years we feel we now enough to move to the next phase. Making a master plan. A Big 10-20 year plan for the land. This is very essential for planning and legalisations but also for landscaping and long term water retention. So in this research we are going to work towards that. Step by step!

Getting data

Created 3yCreated about 3 years ago
Up until most of our time went into observing and gathering data. It’s hard to keep track of all this data and observations, and it’s even more challenging to share them. So in order to make this a bit more collaborative we turned all the essential data we gathered so far into maps. You can download them here if you want to have a look or help us planning. Future Zoning

Created 3yCreated about 3 years agoUpdated 3yUpdated about 3 years ago
We’ve started zoning the land. Trying to give everything a space for the future. This is a complex sum of looking at our contour lines + fire risk + native trees + waterflows + road access + highway sounds + ruins that are there + sun/wind and personal wishes. Seems like a simple plan but many hours of observing and thinking went in there :)

It defines the zones for our future: WORKSPACE AREA Here we have our workspaces for metal, wood, ceramics etc. It will be the most industrial area of our land and will mainly be constructed from recycled materials. Reuse as much as possible. NATURAL BUILDING SITE Here we will explore with natural ways of building, using materials we find around us, cement replacements, clay etc. All natural here FOREST Our land burned down, but this area in the land has by far the most native trees. We will free them up and make sure they can continue to grow to become a forest LAKES Two out of the three lakes already exist. We will clean them up, dig them deeper. Making sure we can store all that winter rain on the land SHORT TERM AREA This area has the same function as our current Basekamp. A basic comfortable place to stay for the short term (seasonal help). It will be a mix of vans and tents. COMMUNITY AREA The core of this area is our community center. It will contain many essential utilities for the community. follow here: https://bit.ly/3f7tpcb Have a look and let us know if you have any suggestions.
